Aircel to launch 3G services before World Cup

Mobile Service Provider, Aircel is planning to launch its 3G services in India before the start of World Cup. World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 19. Aircel chief operating officer Gurudeep Singh said on Thursday.

Aircel is aiming to launch its 3G services across in all 13 circles. Aircel also has Broadband Wireless Internet (BWI) license for 8 circles. Aircel is still evaluating which technology to use for offering there services, WiMax or LTE.

“We are poised for a data usage explosion in this country, as broadband can only reach the masses with wireless,” he said. He admitted however, that 3G set ownership among customers were still in the low single digit percentage.Dell India launched two smartphones based on Android and WP7 platform, with a Dell Stage user interface, which it plans to make common across different mobile OS. The smartphones were launched with bundled Aircel 2G plans.
