Nokia announces mobile phone with 41MP Camera

Finnish smartphone maker, Nokia today announced “Nokia 808 PureView” smartphone is ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) at Barcelona, Spain. The newly introduced 808 PureView is equipped with a 41 Mega Pixel camera sensor and Carl Zeiss lens which is creating buzz around MWC.

The 808 PureView runs on Nokia Belle OS and sports a 4-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display underneath Gorilla Glass enabling clear view under any lighting conditions. A 1.3GHz processor powers the device for advanced image and video processing. The device is equipped with 16GB of internal user memory (microSD supported upto 32 GB). Nokia targets high-end smartphone market with Nokia Lumia 710

The wait may be over now for Indian smartphone users, Nokia will start shipping it’s much awaited Windows Phone “Nokia Lumia 710″ with in a week time. Nokia Lumia 710 & Lumia 800 will be available in India in 5000 retail outlets from mid of December. It is expected to have another Windows Smartphone – Nokia Lumia 800 alongwith Lumia 710. Nokia started selling these phones in Taiwan from yesterday. In next phase it will ship the phones in India, Singapore, Hong Kong and Russia in next seven days. These Nokia phones, Lumai 800 and Lumia 710 may be priced at around Rs 29,999 and Rs 19,999, respectively.

The stylish Nokia Lumia 710 sports a 1.4 Ghz processor running Microsoft Windows Mango OS. The device is equipped with 8 GB of internal memory, 512 MB RAM, a 5 mega pixel auto focus camera with LED flash for capturing HD videos, a 3.7-inch screen, a 1300mAh battery that can offer 7.6 hrs on 3G . Sharing the same specs with Lumia 710, the Nokia Lumia sports a 8 MP camera and 16 GB internal memory.

Nokia N8 gets Symbian Anna firmware update v025.007

While everyone is excited about Symbian Belle and waiting for it, we had shared with you about Nokia E6 getting a firmware update v025.007 and now Nokia N8 running on Symbian Anna has also received the same firmware update. The update is just around 936KB and it only has some performance enhancement and a few bug fixes and no major UI changed. It seems that all Symbian Anna (E7, C7, C6-01 and the X7) running devices are getting the same firmware update so this could be the preparations before we could have the Belle running over our devices.

As for now, go ahead and update your Symbian Anna running devices OTA or via Nokia Suite and we’ll keep you updated about the arrival of Symbian Belle.

Nokia 600, 700 and 701 in October

Nokia will launch three new smartphones Nokia 600, 700 and 701 running Symbian Belle by September-end in India.

A person familiar with the development said to The Mobile Indian, "Nokia has still not finalized the exact date of launch but is planning to launch Nokia 600, 700 and 701 running on Symbian Belle around Diwali in India. It is still working on the pricing of the devices."

Nokia 600

The new Nokia 600 is said to be among the loudest smartphones from Nokia, rated at 106 phone for loudness. Since it comes with an FM transmitter and an FM receiver, you don't need earphones to listen to your favorite radio station.

The Nokia 600 weighs a mere 100 grams while sporting a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen with 640 x 320 pixel display resolution. It has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, which is capable of taking 720p video and high quality still images.

Nokia 600 also has a Near Field Communication chip that can be used with emerging NFC apps and accessories such as Nokia Play 360 speakers. NFC-enabled versions of Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja games will come per-loaded on the device.

NFC is a short range wireless communication technology which allows communication between two devices that are at a distance of up to 20 cm apart. Thus, NFC enabled devices can be used for making mobile payments, for mobile ticketing, and as keys for accessing cars, homes or hotel rooms.

Nokia 600 will be available in pink, lime, white and black colors, and will cost around Rs 11,800.

Nokia 700

Weighing less than 100 grams, the Nokia 700 has a 3.2 inch Clear Back Amoled display with Gorilla Glass technology to prevent damage. This Symbian Belle running smartphone supports pentaband radio and 3G networks. It is powered by a 1 GHz processor and features Bluetooth, WiFi, FM radio, a digital compass and GPS sensor.

With 2 GB of onboard memory, this handset uses a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. Like Nokia 600, the 700 too comes with Near Field Communication built-in. The phone has a speaker at the bottom. Nokia 700 will be available in grey, silver, white, coral red, peacock blue and purple colours. Its body moreover is said to be made entirely of recycled materials.

It is to be priced at around Rs 17,200.

Nokia 701

The 701 has a 3.5 inch IPS LCD display with ClearBack technology, wrapped in Corning Gorilla Glass. Nokia claims the 701 handset to be its brightest smartphone.

This handset comes with a new, fast graphics co-processor which will have four times the graphics memory of previous Symbian handsets. This new graphics chip will be coupled with a 1 GHz processor to give the best possible performance with Symbian Belle.

At the back is an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and the front facing VGA camera supports video calling. By default the phone comes with 8 GB of onboard memory, but it can take up to 32 GB via a memory card.

Similar to the 700, this model features a Near Field Communication chip and will have NFC-enabled versions of Angry Birds and Asphalt 5 games. Nokia 701 promises up to 8.8 hours of talk time over 3G networks and 17 hours over GSM. Evidently a high-end handset, Nokia 701 will come in steel dark, amethyst violet and white colors. It is expected to cost approximately Rs.19,000/-.

Nokia Sleeping screen gets updated

Nokia Sleeping Screen application, which allows Symbian S6o ^3 users to change their sleeping screen to something more colourful than the ordinary clock, has received an update.

With the new update, Nokia Sleeping screen gets a totally new identity as along with the older stock interfaces. Nokia users are now also allowed to use their own custom images as the sleeping screen. The images will not appear the way they appear in the real world but the software will modify the images and convert it in to something similar to what the stock images looked like.

The Nokia Sleeping Screen was first launched in April as an experimental application.

Nokia developers have added a plain looking clock to the sleeping screen that makes more space available on the screen since users now will be using a lot of custom images. Along with that new stack themes or images for the sleeping screen have been added to the application if users want to use them. And finally the missing link, the orientation change for the sleeping screen has now been enabled so now with the change in the orientation of the phone the sleeping screen also changes the orientation which was obviously missing earlier.

The sleeping screen is available at the Nokia beta labs as a public beta and all those who want to use this on their Symbian^3 devices can download it directly from the Nokia Beta Labs or can follow the link.

Symbian Anna now available for download

Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8 will get the much awaited major Symbian update. The Symbian Anna (Has nothing to do with anti-corruption movement ;-) ) brings a host of usability enhancements to the desk for these devices. It can be downloaded using the OVI suite or OTA directly to the Smartphone. Exciting news for the C7 users is that the NFC chip will be activated after the update.

Symbian Anna update starts today

The Symbian Anna update for Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 will be available for today.While the new icons would be the first thing users would notice after updating to Symbian Anna, but major changes are under the hood including a portrait-mode Qwerty keyboard for the screen. There is a split-screen view as well, which lets the users view web pages and messages they are replying to while they type their own message.

Nokia has claimed in the press release that after updating to Anna browser will become faster and easier to use and supports all the latest standards. The release further states that Ovi Maps will also be quicker and simpler, and will includes public transport routes as well.

Nokia' s flagship phone N8 which has done reasonably well in the market is set to get a face lift after the Symbian Anna update. N8's video support feature with 720 pixels and 30 frames per second, which is perhaps not present in any other phone, is one of the highlights.

Nokia N8 was launched just about one and half years back and has become a big success in such a short duration. It comes armed with a 12 megapixel camera with numerous great features and with the new Symbian Anna update, the phone is likely to become even more useful for the users.

Another smartphone from Nokia's stable E7 which comes with a large touchscreen, is just the right kind of companion for Symbian Anna update, but the new portrait mode on screen keyboard doesn't look necessary edition for E7, as the device has a hardware keyboard as well. The web browser of the phone becomes faster with the update and the revamped calendar is another attractive new feature.

The other Nokia handsets which have received Symbian Anna update include Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01. The update is likely to do a world of good to the Nokia C7 because it doesn't have the camera of N8 or the hardware of E7, so it needs the looks to stay ahead in the game.

With the smallest touchscreen of 3.2 inches, the Nokia C6-01 is not the right phone to get portrait-mode Qwerty keyboard, but no phone gets hurt by a better looking user interface.

Symbian Anna update for N8 and E7 available on NaviFirm

Here is some sweet news for all Symbian fans. The Anna update for N8 and E7 is now available on Navifirm for download. This isn’t the official update, but for those who know their way through flashing and know how to handle handset ROMs, can surely download the firmware files and flash their handsets to enjoy the latest update. There is also news that some E7 owners are already getting update v22 through the Ovi Suite. This makes one thing clear that the Nokia servers are almost ready to launch the official update through the OTA and Ovi Suite.

Polar Mobile to launch over 300 app for Nokia devices

Nokia has made a deal with Polar Mobile to launch over 300 mobile apps for Nokia smartphones over the next 12 months. The apps will be made available to consumers of Nokia’s Symbian smartphones, the newly announced Nokia N9 and future Nokia with Windows Phone. The apps will be from top tier media brands globally, including Wired UK, Kompas, Advertising Age, The Globe and Mail, Shanghai Daily and 7DAYS. The first set of 50 apps under this new partnership will be available on Nokia’s Symbian devices by next month and will be available globally through Nokia’s Ovi Store.

“Nokia is excited about the opportunity to team up with Polar Mobile to bring hundreds of quality apps to consumers around the world. Symbian Anna updates finally rolling out?

According SymbianTweet, the PR2.0 aka Anna update for the Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8 are now available through OTA (Over the Air) as well as through the Ovi Suite. Yesterday we had posted that the new firmware files for the E7 and N8 were available on NaviFirm, and it seems that Nokia is now pushing out the anticipated update through its servers.

If you do not see the update anywhere, hold on to your handsets as the servers might take some time. So keep checking for your updates and do tell us if you manage to update your Symbian handsets.

Nokia N9 to have FM Radio and Transmitter, is available for pre-order on Amazon US

Nokia had claimed that it does not have any plans to launch the N9 in the US market; however Amazon has listed the MeeGo device and is up for pre-order. Both the 16GB and the 64GB models are available at $500 and $650 respectively.

Amazon also says that they will deliver the handset on the 23rd of September at your doorstep. The handset will be unlocked and will be available in all color variants including black, cyan and magenta.

In other news, the N9 has been confirmed to have FM radio receiver and an FM transmitter onboard. The official Nokia N9 specs sheet never included that the Smartphone has FM radio or FM transmitter. But it has now been confirmed by Nokia itself on one of its developer websites. There is no software support as of yet, but surely something might brew up to run the radio receiver and transmitter. Maybe that is the reason why Nokia never put the features on the official specs sheet.

Nokia has introduced the BH-112 which is a stylish Bluetooth headset which will be available in five colours: cyan, magenta, green, black and white. The colours remind us of the previously launched BH-111 which was announced at the Nokia Connections event in Singapore.

Nokia offers exclusive download of Midival Punditz’s album from Ovi Store

Control mini racing car from anywhere with Nokia N8

Nokia has launched a road show which lets the Nokia N8 users know the possibilities they can enjoy with their Nokia smartphone. The road show was started with Bollywood actor Gisselle Monteiro in New Delhi where Nokia showcased how users would be able to enjoy mini racing by remote controlling their mini racing cars through Nokia N8.

This was just a showcase of what the users would be able to do and is not available currently in the markets. Nokia has worked with Bangalore based developers Divum and the first project includes an app running on the Nokia N8 that lets consumers control mini model cars through WiFi and motion sensing.

Nokia is also running a competition called, "Invent the future with Nokia", inviting entries from consumers for their ideas on what they would want to control with the Nokia smartphone. The winner's idea will be actioned in real-life - and they will get to work with the developers.

Users are able to actually control the remote controlled cars through WiFi and motion sensing using an app on Nokia N8, and the best part is users can control the cars through Internet irrespective of where they are located. Consumers will also be able to meet the developers behind the app, Divum, and get a sneak peek into their next project with the Nokia N8.

Announcing the competition, Viral Oza, director, marketing, Nokia India, said, "As a leader in mobile technology, innovation is always at the centre of what we do. Smart devices are one of the three key focus areas for Nokia, according to our global strategy announced earlier this year. Nokia announces new browser for S40 devices

Following the update of the web browser for S40 devices, Nokia has now announced a new browser for the S40 devices. It brings along all the best features of the older browser while adding few new things, making web browsing easier and more fun for the users while minimizing data costs.

The new browser will now be called as Nokia Browser and not the OVI browser.

To make web browsing cheaper and faster, it relies on the data compression technology. With the use of this technology websites are compressed at the server level before being sent to the mobile device thus allowing devices to complete tasks while reducing data downloads. Nokia is not the first one to use this though as Opera has been using this technology for a long time now for their mobile and PC based web browsers.

Along with that, multi page browsing and website categorising based on the type of content has been added to the browser as well, which definitely seems to be developed for the new line of touch and type devices in particular.

All this and for the first time, the S40 browser is featuring support for web applications as well. So now you can select from a number of web based applications and add them to your browser or select your favourite application as well if it is compatible with the new browser.

The new browser will come as a preinstalled application for all the upcoming S40 based phone including new phones like Nokia C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06. Nokia brings full throttle tournament to promote HD gaming on X7

In order to promote high definition gaming experience on newly launched symbian anna os based smartphone Nokia X7, the company has launched a gaming tournament. Nokia announces application developing competition called “Create for Millions”

Nokia has announced "Create for Millions" a global competition that brings consumers and developers together to create applications for Nokia's Series 40 mobile phones. Create for Millions also provides developers an opportunity to bring Java and web apps to millions of consumers worldwide and win their share of cash and prizes valued at one million euros.

Authors of the winning entries may see their ideas come to life in person at Nokia World later this year and can meet the developers who created them. In addition to a free expenses-paid trip to Nokia World, winning consumer's can play with their new app on the latest Nokia Series 40 phone given during Nokia World. Consumers are encouraged to submit ideas in one of three categories: health & education; social networking & location; and games & infotainment. Additionally, consumers can vote on entries and comment or collaborate on ideas already submitted.

Nokia plans to launch four new 1 GHz smartphones

With the announcement of the Nokia-Microsoft tie up many people thought that the future of Symbian was sealed, but Nokia might just have totally different plans for its operating system as it gears up to launch four new smartphones running on Symbian and powered by 1 GHz processors.

This news comes at a time when Nokia has decided to outsource Symbian related activities to Accenture in October this year.

Flashfly, a Thai website, has even revealed images and specifications of the Symbian smartphones that Nokia plans to launch.

The four Symbian smartphones in Nokia's lineup are Nokia 701, 700, 600 and 500, which are codenamed Helen, Zeta, Cindy and Fate, respectively.

Nokia 701 and 700, along with a 1 GHz processor, will feature the upcoming version of Symbian, called Belle. Along with the new operating system the new smartphone will also get the Ovi browser version 8.1 offering better and richer web browsing along with native Flash support.

On the other hand it is expected that Nokia 600 and 500 will be based on Symbian Anna, and one of these could be the upcoming 1 GHz-based S40 smartphone we had reported about a couple of days back.

It may be recalled that some time after the S60^3 we saw the recent launch of Symbian Anna, the official successor of S60. Immediately after launching Anna Nokia has started thinking of the next step, and that is Belle, which will be the official successor of Symbian Anna.

Even though Nokia might be focusing more on the new Windows based smartphones as of now, information available in the public domain suggests there are ambitious plans for Symbian's future.
