Wynncom launches affordable OGO mobile phones

Wynncom Mobile, a part of SAR group has come up with new range of mobile phones. Tagged as OGO(On-the-Go), these handsets are to provide smartphone like features at a fraction of price of real smartphones from other companies.

New affordable Wynncom OGO handsets are targeted to the youth market and available at less than Rs. 5000. At present Wynncom OGO O-77 Konnect and O-78 Touch handsets have been launched.

Aircel reveals iPhone4 data tariff plans

Aircel today announced it will launch iPhone 4 in India on May 27 with a new pricing model, allowing customers to recover the upfront cost of their iPhone on select plans over the course of 24 months, making iPhone in India more affordable than ever.

Aircel will provide customers with a range of flexible service plans for both post-paid and pre-paid mobile customers. Following an upfront payment of Rs. 34,500 for the 16GB model and Rs. 40,900 for the 32GB model, customers will have the opportunity to recover 100 percent of their upfront iPhone cost in monthly credits on their service plan over a period of 24 months.

Enjoy location based services on Aircel without a GPS enabled handset

Aircel plans to offer its 2G and 3G subscribers better location based services and to get real time tracking, navigation information and information services while on the move, without the need to buy a GPS enabled phone from next month.

Aircel, has selected Ericsson to provide the mobile positioning systems for its subscribers. Through these services subscribers will be able to find nearby restaurants or gyms, the fastest route home, or keep track of children or the elderly with a tracking service. Enterprises could also use the services for effective resource management.

Mallikarjun Rao, chief technology officer, Aircel, said "There is huge potential in offering this value- added service to our consumers. Most Indians spend on average 90 minutes per day on the roads; location-based services will definitely increase efficiency and enhance the quality of their life."

Ericsson's Mobile Positioning Systems (MPS) will offer advanced Location Based Services (LBS) to Aircel subscribers and can support several positioning alternatives for GSM and WCDMA(3G). This ranges from network-based methods (using cell tower based information), which will be available to all users, to more accurate terminal-based methods (in phone/device capability) using GPS positioning for people with GPS enabled phones.

Aircel already offers 'pocketfinder' service which helps users find places of interest nearby such as petrol pumps, ATMs, hospitals, restaurants etc. However, with this new deployment these services will be expanded and their accuracy improved.

iPhone4 to be introduced in India by AirTel & Aircel

AirTel & Aircel are all set to become the first telecom operators to launch iPhone4 in India in coming months, the telecos has said in a press release. Incidentally, the telecos introduced the first ever iPhone in India as well.

iPhone 4 is the latest version of Apple iPhone and comes with features like Apple's stunning Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone and Face Time for video calling. It was launched in the USA in June last year.

With a sleek, sharp and thinner design than its predecessor, the fourth-generation model of Apple iPhone comes with a 3.5 inch screen with 640 X 960 pixel resolution.

The phone's operating system has also been upgraded and is now called iOS 4, which offers features like multitasking, spell check, folders and iBooks.

The phone comes in two versions (of 16GB and 32GB memory capacity), a 5 megapixel camera, up from 3 megapixel in the earlier version. The camera has an LED flash. It has a second VGA camera for video calling.

The phone's connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI and GPS. The device promises seven hours of 3G talk time, six hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video and 40 hours of music playback.

The sales figures speak more than the specification sheet, and with three million units selling in first three weeks of its international launch, you can easily understand how good the phone is.

The pricing here should not be much different than the international prices. Internationally, its prices start from $500 (about 25,000), and AirTel might sell the latest version along with the earlier one with substantial price difference.

Always wondering where your nearest and dearest is? Eager to locate a friend (in a way that doesn’t violate their privacy)? Yes! AIRCEL’s exciting new Value Added Service Dubbed as 3G Pocket Finder, your ‘liked’ or loved one is always just few clicks away!

The service is just similar to another MTNL’s Friend Finder Service, However Aircel added some more features and social networking (Face Book / Twitter) integration.

Find Me: It will let you know your current position & you can share your position with Facebook/Twitter.

Local Serach: This helps you to search for information on petrol pumps, ATMs, hospitals, restaurants etc. You can get driving directions to them, look for their location on the map, or simply get their contact information.

Friend Finder: The most useful tool in this service. Using this application you can get the current positions of your friends. You can directly call/SMS them according to your requirement.According to Aircel the location is accurate to between about 400 to 500 meters.

To subscribe this service one have to send a SMS by typing “FM” to 54654. After subscribing there is 4 ways to use this service:

(i)Via WAP: Goto 3g.pocketinternet.in and choose “Services” and after that “Pocket Finder”.

(ii). Via USSD: Simply dial the *567# and get the pocket finder menu. On the menu you can then opt for the service as per the format stated in the return string. All services are available on the return string.

(iii)Via SMS:

1.To find a friend, SMS in the format ‘FF 10 digit mobile number of friend’ to 54654.

2.The recipient mobile number will get a SMS from 54654 with the text “Your friend your 10 digit mobile number wants to add you as a friend. SMS “Yes” to accept and “No” to reject.”

3.If your friend accepts, you can then track their location.

4.For local search SMS in the format ‘FIND’ Name to 54654 where ‘Name’ is what you are looking for e.g. Bank, ATM etc.

Via Mobile Application: Simply SMS “Finder” to 54654 or 5800000 and you will receive an SMS with a link to download the application. On clicking the link the application downloads to the phone and you can access all of the services.

Aircel to launch 3G services before World Cup

Mobile Service Provider, Aircel is planning to launch its 3G services in India before the start of World Cup. World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 19. Aircel chief operating officer Gurudeep Singh said on Thursday.

Aircel is aiming to launch its 3G services across in all 13 circles. Aircel also has Broadband Wireless Internet (BWI) license for 8 circles. Aircel is still evaluating which technology to use for offering there services, WiMax or LTE.

“We are poised for a data usage explosion in this country, as broadband can only reach the masses with wireless,” he said. Aircel to launch its 3G services very soon

AIRCEL the fast growing Pan India telecom operator in the country, announced that it will roll out its commercial 3G/HSPA network in next 45 to 60 days. The company also said that its also ready for 4G / BWA services too.

They are also planning to start 4G /Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) trials by the first or second quarter of the next financial year i.e. April 2011. The BWA-4G Services will be rolled out by December 2011 or January 2012 in 8 telecom circles, Mr. Rao further added.”
