Samsung Galaxy Pro: Handset Review

Last month in April’11 Samsung launched its Galaxy Pro business phone in India. The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Pro may prove itself as a feature packed alternative to business phones like Motorola Charm, BlackBerries, Nokia E5 or Nokia E7. I got an opportunity to graze my hands on this nicely designed phone and after using it for almost a week, I eagerly want to share the experience with you people. As I said earlier the Galaxy Pro, nicely designed, relatively slim and light weight and looks very similar to Motorola Charm. I personally feel that 2.8 inch display is inadequate for an Android running phone but when we compare it with peer Nokia business phones E5 and E72 placing everything on a 2.4 inches display, it can be acceptable. The touch screen display with excellent responsiveness (if you are not comparing it with Apple iPhone) is much impressive. However, device’s low resolution (320×240) with lack of multitouch may prohibit you from enjoying many games available at Android Market.

Using its full QWERTY keypad is really a joy and one of the reasons to recommend this device to business users. The responsive keys allow fast text inputs enhancing productivity while using it for messaging and emails. The Shift and Alt buttons placed in in the corner and well placed cursor (arrow) keys enables fast text selections. The phone can also perform as a full touchscreen device, but onscreen QWERTY keypad occupying part of display area may annoy you. Samsung’s Touch Wiz user interface UI running over Android 2.2.2 well suited for catering needs of a business user. However device doesn’t support multi-touch pinch to zoom gestures on apps and web pages. The QWERTY keypad is integrated with device’s phone book which is tightly coupled with Facebook. This feature will allow you to see latest Facebook updates of a person even before you start dialings him. Keypad is also well integrated with home screen to give you fast contact search and much more.

Samsung Galaxy Pro equipped with a regular 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera and enhanced with common features like smile shot and a panorama mode. However, there is no secondary camera for making 3G video calls. But this can be acceptable considering the price tag on which device is available in Indian market.

Being a business phone it offers all the options for connectivity with internet and other devices. The device is 3G enabled (HSPA 7.2 Mbps) and regular connective options like WiFi, and Bluetooth is also available. The device can be converted to a WiFi hotspot and through A-GPS it can keep you easily located.

The device powered with 1350 mAh battery and lasts for full day with heavy usage including 3G.
